E K Access was born in the spring of 2003, approximately six months after a brave little boy named Eric Koch was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Eric was one week shy of his third birthday when he became very ill. Ultimately the diagnosis was made. Any family who has been touched by Diabetes knows that love, strength, and patience are the key to living with the challenge of this Disease. Eric was an inspiration. Although he was so very young he adapted to the testing of blood and shots of insulin fairly quickly. Within approximately six months Eric began using the insulin pump. This gave not only Eric, but all of our family a bit more freedom in the daily challenge of balancing insulin with carbohydrate intake.
The pump cover that came with the insulin pump was far from “child friendly”. We searched for alternatives and did find a few that were geared toward children. Still, I had an issue with some of the style and design. Along with the valuable suggestions of my two sons, Eric and Jacob, a design was created that is not only child friendly, but safety conscious, and has fashion in mind. Our “Patent Pending” design offers something for all diabetics using an insulin pump. There are styles for young children, teens, and adults alike.
